The hike takes an average of 5 hours or less depending on one’s speed. This is the smallest mountain among the 8 Volcanoes but this doesn't mean that it's easy to hike. You will encounter different primates including vervet monkeys, golden monkeys and mountain gorillas if you are lucky enough. Large animals such as the hyenas, forest hog, forest elephants and many more others.

Be picked from the hotel in Kigali and transfer to Volcanoes National Park where Mount. Gahinga is located. Arrive at the park headquarters in Kinigi at around 7:00am and attend the briefing session. You will be told about the dos and don'ts to follow while on this hiking adventure and among others include; don't litter, following instructions of the guide, don't feed the wildlife and much more. You will start the hike at around 8:00am which will take about 4 to 5 hours of both ascent and descent.
The hike will involve different stopovers as you sight numerous attractions including bird species such as olive woodpeckers, paradise flycatchers, Rwenzori Batis and mammals like black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, olive baboons, ETC. After this experience, take a snack at the summit and head back to the park offices where you will meet the driver guide ready to take you back to Kigali.
