Detailed Itinerary.
Day 1: Travel to Volcanoes national park from Kigali
Be picked from any agreed point in Kigali city, the capital city of Rwanda and have an optional visit to some of the attractions in this beautiful city. You can visit the Rwanda genocide memorial grounds where thousands of innocent people were killed and buried at this point during the genocide wars. Also, visit the local markets like Kigali central market where you will witness the different foodstuffs sold here.
The guide driver will take you to Volcanoes national park which is located in the Virunga Mountains and known for homing the endangered mountain gorillas and the golden monkeys. The journey will take about 3 to 4 hours to reach the park at the booked lodge.
Day 2: Golden monkey trekking and head back to Kigali/Fly home
Begin the interesting day with breakfast and a drive to the park offices. Attend a briefing where you will be able to encounter the required information that is very necessary while in the forest. The dos and don'ts that you will be told among others include; don't feed animals, don't litter, use of flashlight camera is highly recommended, don't trek if you have infectious diseases like cough, flue and many more others. The park guide ranger will escort you to the jungle to start the search for these unique and rare primates.
You have a chance of meeting the gorillas since the same trails are used while on the gorilla trekking experience. Trekking these rare primates is interesting since you will spot different bird species such as crested barber, Kivu ground thrush, palm nut vulture, strange weaver and much more. Have an hour while in the presence of the golden monkeys as they play while jumping from one tree to another but the overall experience will last between 2 to 4 hours.
After, check out from the accommodation after having hot lunch and transfer to Kigali city, fly home and this marks the end of the tour.
