4 days Rwanda golden monkeys and gorillas

Overview

During this great 4 days gorillas and golden monkeys tour in Rwanda, explore Volcanoes national park in the heart of Virunga Conservation Area. Explore and rediscover these rare primates in their natural setting and each visit will grant you an hour in their presence. Pass via the twin lakes of Ruhondo and Burera on your way to the park, visit Ibyiwacu cultural village where you will get to learn about the rich Rwandan culture and then visit vibrant Kigali city attractions including the Inema art Centre, Kigali genocide memorial site and more.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Travel to Volcanoes national park via the twin lakes.

Upon arrival, you will be briefed about the tour by an assigned safari guide. Thereafter transfer to Volcanoes national park which is home to both rare primates and these are mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. This park has a great history of conservation since the times of Dian Fossey. She saved gorillas from being poached for bush meat and she started up a research station called Karisoke and as well, initiated the gorilla habituation process in Virunga region. You will visit the twin lakes on your way and have an optional canoe ride on one of the lakes. Arrive and head to the lodge.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park.

Begin the day at around 7 am with breakfast and then, head to the park offices for a briefing which will include the dos and don'ts to follow while in the forest, you will also have general knowledge about the forest and its inhabitants. The dos and don'ts among others include, don't feed wild animals, don't use a flashlight camera, always keeping a distance and don't make noise.

Begin the search under the leadership of a park ranger / guide, looking forward in great anticipation of finding the gorilla family feeding, breastfeeding and more. The overall experience can last for over 4 hours but this depends on where these great apes are located. Thereafter, have leisure time at the lodge.

Day 3: Golden monkey trekking and a visit to the Ibyiwacu Cultural Village.

Like the previous day, attend a briefing session at the park offices in the morning and later head into the jungles to begin the search. Golden monkeys can be traced in the lowland bamboo plantations and they will be jumping from one tree to another. They are interesting to watch with golden brown hair punches. Spend an hour in their presence, watching and photographing them and later head back to the lodge for lunch. Immediately, visit the Ibyiwacu cultural village which is a home of varied Rwandan culture. While here, you will vibrant music dance and drama, taste local / traditional dishes. This is one of the unequalled ways of exploring some of the African cultures.

Day 4: Head back to Kigali. Optional city tour.

Leave the lodge in the morning and transfer back to Kigali, a journey that takes 3 hours. You will have the best of Kigali city tours while visiting places like Gisozi genocide memorial site, the Kigali central market, Kigali Art center and Belgian monument. The driver guide will drop you at Kigali airport and this will mark the end of this 4 days tour.
