This 5 days Rwanda primate safari will take you to beautiful national parks of Nyungwe and volcanoes in Rwanda where you will be able to trek the endangered mountain gorillas in volcanoes and chimpanzees in Nyungwe forest respectively, a canopy walk in Nyungwe forest is also an interesting one you should not miss while on this safari. Not only the above you should also not forget to hike one of the mountains while in this land of a thousand hills. After all of the above, you will also have a city tour in Kigali and have a look at the site where the 1994 genocide victims were buried.
Detailed itinerary
Day1: Arrival in Rwanda and check-in at the hotel
Immediately after you arrive in Rwanda at the airport, our driver-guide will welcome you and take you through a quick briefing about the tour and then drive you to the booked hotel where you will have your night and dinner.
Day2: Transfer to Nyungwe forest and canopy walk
Wake up early in the morning and have your breakfast at the hotel and then your driver-guide will pick you up and drive to Nyugwe forest at the lodge for lunch as well as relaxation. In the evening you will go for a canopy walk in the Nyungwe forest which is a bridge made out of ropes crossing the Nyungwe forest.
While on this walk, you will have an aerial view of the forest, various primates jumping from one tree to another like black and white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys among others, numerous bird species, not forgetting the beautiful breathtaking scenery and also taking photos as well while on top of the forest. Move back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day3: Chimpanzee trekking and transfer to volcanoes NP
In the morning, have your breakfast at your lodge as you are waiting for your driver guide who will pick you up and drive you to the park headquarters where you will meet a ranger guide who will give you a quick briefing about chimpanzee trekking, you will then head to the forest for a chimpanzee trekking experience.
This experience normally takes 3-4 hours and only one hour is given to a group of trekkers as they watch the chimpanzees play, feed, and groom each other among other behaviours also taking photos. Note that the number of people allowed to trek a certain group or family of chimpanzees are 8 people and the age is 12 years. Retreat to the lodge and have your lunch and then transfer to volcanoes national park.
Day4: Mountain gorilla trekking and optional activity
On this fourth day of your 5 days, the Rwanda primate safari will begin with a breakfast in the morning and then you will transfer to volcanoes national park headquarters with your driver-guide for gorilla permits allowing you to go trekking in the park. You will then meet the ranger guide who will lead you to the forest to search for a certain mountain gorilla family, it will take you some hours searching for it as they tend to move up in the mountain.
If found, you will be allowed to spend one hour in their presence as you take photos, watch their behaviours and then trek back to the lodge for lunch. Later on in the evening, you can opt to go for birding in the park since it homes over 300 bird species, you can also hike the mountain or a nature walk as you relax your mind. Move back to the lodge for dinner.
Day5: Transfer to Kigali and short city tour
On this fifth day of your five days Rwanda primate safari, you will wake up early and have your breakfast at your lodge and then after your driver's guide will drive you to Kigali which is the capital city of Rwanda. Upon reaching Kigali, you will visit the Kigali memorial centre where thousands of genocide victims were buried and not only the above, you will also visit some local markets for fresh fruits of Rwanda and also pass via the craft shops where you will buy some souvenirs for yourself and your people at home. After the city tour, your driver will drive you to Kigali international airport and fly you back home.
