Have fun as you take this amazing safari where you will hike the tallest mountain in Africa which is Kilimanjaro. This mountain is located in Tanzania and the trail or route used to the summit is very interesting with different views, challenging moments and many more others. On Machame gate and end in Mweka camp. Machame route is also known as the Whiskey route and is again known as the second most popular route. Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Head to Machame gate from Arusha and hike to Machame Camp.
You will be picked up from Arusha and drive to Kilimanjaro National Park early in the morning. Find your next stop at Machame gate where you will receive a briefing as you wait for your trekking permits.
Then start the kike passing through the rain forested area as the guide tells you about the flora and faunas found on the way. Since this is at a lower elevation, the trail tends to be muddy and slippery which calls to have trekking sticks or poles. The hike will take 5 to 6 hours to reach the Machame Camp.
Day 2: Hike to Shira camp from Machame Camp
After a night, have breakfast and then proceed with a hike to Shira camp as you pass in moorland areas. Cross a valley along a steep rocky ridge and at this camp, the temperatures start to decline. The time taken to reach the Shira camp is between 4 to 5 hours hike.
Day 3: Shira camp though lava tower to Barranco camp
Enjoy this day as you take a hike through the lava plateau to the lava tower. This is also called the shark's tooth and the trail will take you to an arrow glacier and after decent to Barranco camp which is at an elevation of 3839m above sea level.
Day 4: Head to Karanga camp
Enjoy the trail as you penetrate the Barranco wall to the Karanga Valley. This is one of the best days where we see the ability, energy, power, and strength of your crew. You will spend a night at Karanga camp after a 3 to 4 hours hike.
Day 5: Hike to Barafu camp
This hike will take you to the alpine desert which is at an elevation of 4034m at Barafu camp. Barafu is a local Swahili word meaning ice and this means that there is a lot of ice hence coldness. Enjoy different views from different angles and this will be a great reward since it will take about 3 to 4 hours. Early dinner will be served, rest as you prepare for an early wake-up.
Day 6: Hike to the summit and descend to Mweka camp
The interest comes as early as midnight. You will encounter the most challenging trail during this hike since you will be heading to the highest peak. Enjoy the crater rim on Stella point where most people end due to toughness. Proceed to the summit the highest point in Africa and enjoy the sunrise. Take memorable photos at Uhuru peak. Start the trek back to Mweka camp where you will spend a night.
Day 7: Descend to Mweka gate and transfer back to Arusha
This is the time to say goodbye to your trekking crew and the day will start in the morning with breakfast and then descend to Mweka gate. Receive your summit certificate and then drive to Arusha/Moshi, marking the end of a 7 days hike at Mount. Kilimanjaro.
