Day 1: Head to Machame gate from Arusha and hike to Machame Camp.

You will be picked up from Arusha and drive to Kilimanjaro National Park early in the morning. Find your next stop at Machame gate where you will receive a briefing as you wait for your trekking permits.

Then start the kike passing through the rain forested area as the guide tells you about the flora and faunas found on the way. Since this is at a lower elevation, the trail tends to be muddy and slippery which calls to have trekking sticks or poles. The hike will take 5 to 6 hours to reach the Machame Camp.

Day 2: Hike to Shira camp from Machame Camp

After a night, have breakfast and then proceed with a hike to Shira camp as you pass in moorland areas. Cross a valley along a steep rocky ridge and at this camp, the temperatures start to decline. The time taken to reach the Shira camp is between 4 to 5 hours hike.

Day 3: Shira camp though lava tower to Barranco camp

Enjoy this day as you take a hike through the lava plateau to the lava tower. This is also called the shark's tooth and the trail will take you to an arrow glacier and after decent to Barranco camp which is at an elevation of 3839m above sea level.

Day 5: Hike to Barafu camp

This hike will take you to the alpine desert which is at an elevation of 4034m at Barafu camp. Barafu is a local Swahili word meaning ice and this means that there is a lot of ice hence coldness. The interest comes as early as midnight. You will encounter the most challenging trail during this hike since you will be heading to the highest peak.
